The Chicago Daily Herald reports that several of Bill Clinton's pardon recipients are now supporting his wife's presidential campaign. Clinton, for example, pardoned Richard Wilson Riley Jr.'s 1993 drug convictions and, today, Riley's father (a former South Carolina governor and former Clinton education secretary), is in charge of Mrs. Clinton's presidential campaign there. The elder Riley has also given her $1,000. David Herdlinger, convicted of accepting bribes to reduce or drop DUI charges (and also pardoned by Mr. Clinton) has also given $1,000. John Deutch, resigned as Clinton's CIA Director amid allegations of mishandling classified information but avoided prosecution by a pardon. Deutch gave $2,300 to Mrs. Clinton's campaign in March and previously supported her U.S. Senate fund. ABC News has already noted that Alfredo Regalado, who gave Mrs. Clinton $2,000, was pardoned by her husband for failing to "report the transportation of currency in excess of $10,000 into the United States." Finally, Mrs. Clinton has the support of Henry Cisneros, the former HUD Secretary, who was also pardoned by her husband. Mrs. Clinton's campaign has not responded to the Herald's requests for comment. See Herald story here and ABC News story here.
