The New York Daily News is reporting on a "brave 9-year-old" who has written three letters to the president and a fourth to the First Lady requesting a pardon for his father who was arrested while playing the role of chauffeur during a 1989 drug bust. His father, Chibueze Okorie, served an 18-month sentence, but has been in jeopardy of deportation to Nigeria since 1995. According to the Daily News, "Because of a stringent federal law passed in 1996, immigrants convicted of crimes, even minor ones committed years ago, are rarely allowed to remain in this country." The search for a pardon is also said to be supported by "church and political leaders in New York, including Sen. Hillary Clinton." See story here and here.
