The Time-Picayune is all over what it sees as "nonsensical arguments" in support of clemency for former Governor Edwin Edwards and urges President Bush not to be "swayed by them." An editorial notes Edwards' age "is not pertinent" except to highlight that he was "mature enough to understand the consequences of his actions." The paper believes Louisiana's reputation "suffered mightily" because of Edwards' actions and concludes that he "has served six years for the damage he did to this state. He has four more years to go, and there is no credible argument to cut that time short." See complete editorial here.
