If anyone is going to take the heat for granting clemency to Jeffery Wood, it is not going to be the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles. The Associated Press reports that the Board has rejected Wood's clemency request in a unanimous vote (7-0). As it happened, today is Wood's 35th birthday. Gov. Rick Perry is the only thing between Wood and an execution on Thursday. Wood's lawyers argue he does not deserve the death penalty for a murder committed in a store while he was waiting in a getaway car. See story here and here.
