The Arkansas News Bureau reports (here) that the State Parole Board has recommended clemency for 58-year old Earnest Dean Murphy, who is in his 36th year of prison for murder. Murphy has had a kidney and part of his lung removed because of cancer. The Board's vote was 4-1, but a county prosecutor and sheriff object to the recommendation. It is reported that a total of seven recommendations were made for clemency. The Board's recommendations now go to the governor.
