New York: A Progresssive Message at Christmas?

Governor George Pataki granted zero pardons and commutations in 2006. In 2007, Governor Eliot Spitzer granted one. Now, all eyes are on Governor David Paterson. Deiddi Negron is hoping Paterson will do something different. Negron is a first-time offender serving a five-year sentence for drug possession. He entered prison in 2006. An editorialist notes:
Pataki and Spitzer chose to be hard-lined. But we need leaders to be not only tough but also smart. We strongly urge Paterson to give Negron a second chance and to send a progressive message this Christmas.
