The President: Not All Aboard! features an editorial which aims to "compliment" President Bush "for holding down the number of pardons and commutations issued during his presidency … so far." Why? The piece says pardons and commutations "most often undermine the judicial process and usually reek of nepotism, favoritism or cover-up." Likewise, the piece cautions the President "against issuing any preemptive pardons before he leaves office" because it would be "highly controversial and a perverse use of power." And, well, you don't hear this every day: "We hope pardons and commutations go down even further under President Obama." See piece here.
