Obama Heads Into the Bottom 13

As his 40th day in office approaches, Barack Obama has granted no presidential pardons or commutations of sentence and, as a result, is already among the slowest presidents to tend to this constitutional duty. The following is a very short list of presidents who have waited longer than Obama:

Days before
first
Pardon / President / Political Party

1811 - George Washington (F)
699 - George W. Bush (R)
672 - Bill Clinton (D)
536 - John Adams (F)
282 - Richard Nixon (R)
206 - George H.W. Bush (R)
197 - Dwight Eisenhower (R)
127 - Franklin Roosevelt (D)
82 - Jimmy Carter (D)
67 - Calvin Coolidge (R)
65 - Ronald Reagan (R)
42 - James Garfield (R)
37 - Barack Obama (D)
37 - James Buchanan (D)
35 - Ulysses S. Grant (R)

* NOTE: George Washington granted no pardons his first term in office. His first pardon came 42 days into his second term. See chart here.
