Watch List: Ryan Looking for Christmas Clemency

The 75-year old former governor of Illinois, George Ryan, is reported to have high "hope" that his 78-month prison sentence will be commuted by the president. Ryan is represented by another former governor of Illinois, James Thompson who says the president has "a lot on his plate" right now, but:

"Christmas is coming, and that's traditionally a time when presidents act [on clemency requests]. So our hope would be that President Obama – who knows George Ryan, served with him – would be, like his hero, Abraham Lincoln, merciful in this respect."
