Abdiwali Abdiqadir Muse was one of four pirates who took over the Maersk Alabama off of the coast of Somalia. Snipers took down three of his companions and now he is looking at a minimum sentence of 27 years for hostage-taking and conspiracy. Today's Washington Post reports that his mother (in Somalia) has "appealed to President Barack Obama on Wednesday to pardon her son and grant him citizenship." The President, of course, has yet to grant a single pardon or commutation of sentence. The mother adds that it would be "a stain" on the President's name if he were to "punish this child and throw him in jail." See Post article here. See a PardonPower post on pardons and pirates here.
