The Forward reports Israeli President Shimon Peres has personally handed President Obama a letter from Jonathan Pollard requesting federal executive clemency. The letter emphasizes "numerous calls by senior American officials" as well as a request by Prime Minister Netanyahu. It is also reported that the letter expresses "remorse" for spying, which led to a life sentence. Finally, the letter suggests clemency would perhaps have a political benefit as "a welcome gesture of friendship to the Israeli people, an act of solidarity with a staunch and long-time ally of the United States."
