Zambia: 673 Pardons!

It is reported that President Sata has pardoned 673 prisoners "serving prison terms for mostly wildlife-related offences as an independence anniversary gesture of goodwill." The President has complained that the government has "respected animals more than human beings" by throwing hundreds of poor Zambians into prisons on "minor offences." The pardon was announced in an address on the eve of the 47th independence anniversary.
