House Rep: No Mercy on Our Dime!

MSNBC reports that the House of Representatives voted Thursday "to block the Obama administration’s plan to add staff to the Pardon Attorney’s office" and says the vote will be "a potential barrier to the Justice Department’s efforts to scale back some lengthy prison sentences handed down in the war on drugs."

The measure - attached to a new DOJ funding bill - was sponsored by George Holding (R- North Carolina) and bans funding "for staff who would conduct the administration’s planned review of applications from inmates seeking early release."

Holding complains that Obama will use the pardon power “solely on behalf of drug offenders” as a "political ploy" to “bypass Congress” and drug laws. See full story here.
