Obama Grants 111 Commutations of Sentence

111 commutations of sentence granted today. Including 35 life sentences.

White House - for the first time - references this blog's background / commentary on recent grant of 214 commutations (the all-time record for a single day), but does so without giving credit.

The President has now granted 70 pardons and 673 commutations of sentence. In terms of aggregate data, he is approaching the generosity level of the original Mr. Law and Order himself, Richard Nixon.

It seems safe to say that, very shortly, this administration will deny / close more clemency applications than were denied /closed in 8 years of Bush and 8 years of Clinton combined.

President Obama's first term was the least merciful term since that of John Adams. Consequently, he remains behind the pace of most presidents who have served more than one term.
